Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?

So maybe this is not the right question to put here, especially without a picture but anonymity is key. Do you feel like you're unattractive? I look at myself in the mirror and I see all the flaws and I feel unattractive. Some girls think I'm handsome and they go tell all their friends about me and then their friends tell her I'm a disaster. I have good hearing so that's how I know (plus people dont realize how loud they are when they are drunk). So which one is it?Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?
Not to sound full of myself, but I know im good looking. My major flaw is being ridiculously shy.Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?
I truly think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because everyone has different likes and dislikes about the oppposite sex. What is attractive to one woman may not be for the other. Some women go for personality rather than looks. I think it is only natural to see all the flaws about oneself. I do it everyday. The important thing to do is make sure you tell yourself the good things about YOU. I don't have a picture either. I think there are tons of things wrong with me, but I know that someone out there is going to love me despite all my flaws.

The woman that falls for you will love the way you look as well as your personality. Don't ever forget that
personality has a lot to do with how i perceive people... you can put the hottest guy in front of me and he could be a complete jerk and he is immediately less attractive...same goes for the nice funny quirky looking guy... if he is nice (and maybe even funny) he looks so much better than the ';hot jerk';
i think what you think is really different from what others think. almost everybody thinks he/she is not beautiful although others might say this person is really cute...

i hate persons who think they're really cute. maybe they are, but that attitude changes the personality....in a bad way
Me andmy boyfriend had a conversation last night along the lines of this. He said he wanted women to give him that 2nd look when he walked past them.

I got a little pissed, not only because he wants attention off other women, but because he is gorgeous. There was saying i heard a while ago, ';one man's rubbish is another man's treasure';, and this works for women too. What i think is handsome , another girl may think is butt ugly. Also if you have low self esteem, this affects your confidence, and everyone likes someone who is confident. Focus on and think about the things you like about yourself and highlight them. If you think you are funny, tell jokes and if you have pretty eyes, make sure your hair doesn't cover your face.

Ignore the loud girls who are drunk, would you want to take one home to your family??? I doubt it. And girls that tell thier friends about you, focus on thier compliments!!!!
Who cares, be intelligent, get rich and employ her friend to do menial tasks at good wages letting the friend know that you can afford it without blinking. People are lemmings dude and even if you are an Adonais it doesn't matter because you need to be told that you are and eventually everybody gets old and crusty to who cares!
no, its in the eye of the beer holder......no really. it has to be in the eye of the beholder, not to be rude, butthere are some people that i know it took a special someone to love them.
Most definitely it is... You will be seen as you want to come across and you will only be as beautiful as you feel. If you are a confident person who is happy with him self , every one will see just that.
yes, but most relationships that are based on looks dont last as long, while relationships between personalities are great in the long run..
It really is in the eye of the beholder. Some people are dead out that they look so good, and they actually believe it, but the truth is they are very unattractive. It's all in a person, I truly believe that.
ive heard beauty is in the eye of the beer holder..haha ..ur reading way too much into this ...all girls do that ..when we find a really attractive guy ..we just pretend he's not so he dosent get an ego boost
i belive it is
Close - BEER holder ;);););););)

  • Can someone give me some tips to get rid of bags under my eyes and also some beauty tips please?

thanks i'd appreciate it and also how can you get healthy looking skin thanks ur the bsst so thanks again! lolCan someone give me some tips to get rid of bags under my eyes and also some beauty tips please?
Get more sleep. Can someone give me some tips to get rid of bags under my eyes and also some beauty tips please?
To get rid of bags, put some metal spoons in the fridge (NOT freezer) for 10 mins..then lie back and put them over your eyes (so that the hollow bit is facing your eyelids) leave them on till they loose the coldness.

Alternatively, you could use cucumber slices, or stewed tea bags (put them in the fridge too) but i find the spoons method works best, plus it's not as messy. Hope that helped xx
I have the same problem bags over eyes, what I used to ride, this product called Garnier nutritionist caffeine eye roll-on. That's work about a week or so. I give a beauty tips for your feet, if you get dry feet use cocoa butter cream, also use cocoa butter for face it made make really smooth.
lol um lets see... cold spoons from the freezer...tea bags under your eyes...any creams??? clean and clear (i think thats the brand) makes something for eye bags in the morning i use it every day i wake up and my eyes never have bags

also get lots of rest and drink plenty of water

i checked and it is clean and clear for under the eyes..try it out

    =) good luck

    %26lt;3
get a good night sleep and get clean and clear. thats what i do and you can use it for pimples or just to cleanse your face.

    it looks like this

Hi, well apparently if you put hemorrhoid cream on the bags under your eyes, that helps. Not tried it myself but been told. I usually find that by just moisturising properly, it makes your skin look better instantly. x
Place cold tea bags under your eyes for about 10 minutes %26amp; puncture a vitamin e pill and spread it under the eye at night for a few days. It works.
    cucumbers and eye cream
More sleep!!!!! Sleep before midnight is the best sleep.

If you do not drink enough water, your skin looks wrinkly.

Maybe try a sauna or a steam room, they help to cure skin problems.
drink 8 glasses of WATER each day. get plenty of sleep. if you are right handed use your left hand. too heavy handed will not help. a small amount of hemorrhoid cream will help shrink them.
anitaging creams work . gotta start young
    touche eclat

    yves saint lauren

    :)
Water , Sleep and early nights
cucumbers is the best natural way or you could get some eye cream

Beauty...in the eye of the beholder?

ok men. im sure this has been asked many many times but i wanted to know. I know that im not pretty. average at best. yet men have told me i am. thank goodness my boyfriend thinks i am but what is it about a woman that makes you think they are beautiful? for those of you in long term relationships. did you think your girl was beautiful from the start? or just perhaps pretty? but now that you have been together longer you see her as beautiful? just interested. cus i know im not that attractive. i dont wear makeup or put a ton of styling products in my hair. just brush n go lol. but that is how i always was. what is it that makes you men think we are pretty? or do you just say it cus you like us?Beauty...in the eye of the beholder?
Your boyfriend wouldn't say you're pretty if he didn't mean it. And if other men have told you besides him then just know you're doing something right!Beauty...in the eye of the beholder?
Well I have gone out w/ my girl for 4 years. I think she is gorgeous. She is also sweet, down to earth and she always makes me laugh. I love her personality. If she wasn't pretty I would still love her for that.
Beauty comes in different shapes and sizes. There are to many kinds of beauty. Obviously your beautiful, stop being so insecure.
oh my goodness. i agree with the first guy hat answered this question.
Im a guy who doesnt notice beauty really unless i start to like the person they are. But its all about beauty in the eye of the beholder like you said. I had some ugly girls think im hot, some ugly think im ugly and hot chicks the same. Its all about what that individual looks for in a girl.
    Wow...so many questions....

LOL, ah geez, you don't have to put it like that. And yes, to answer your question, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But, people should just be comfortable with themselves, no matter what some may think of you.

Edit: Nah, I'm sure he's not just saying things. You should trust him, have some confidence in yourself, that is what really makes a woman stand out :)
well i think over time some ppl just grow on you. as you start to get to know someone, you start to see their inner beauty and its spreads to the outside. so while the first (even fifth) appearance was unattractive, their personality made them look better.
Guys can only think of one thing at a time so Im sorry you asked too many questions. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
    Yes.

Don't worry about it unless you run into a ';player'; who overdoes it to the point you just wants to drop your pants! Don't be concerned with what women think; they can be are vain, jealous, and maliciously cruel to either the beauty or the beast.
Why don't you ask your boyfriend this?
well if you make us happy, and we really enjoy being around you, you are pretty in our eyes.

The girl i like makes me so happy and id give anything to have a chance with her ,even though she wont give it to me =( , but my friend says she is alright, and to me she is the prettiest girl in the world

You dont need to be attractive to everyone... but only to that one significant other person..
Slimness, and a smile goes a long way. Also the way you dress, a balance between flirt and business casual. Clean hair, fresh breath. and the most important a confident attitude
RICH men want trophys ...not TRUE men
Humans have an aesthetic to beauty. I remember doing an essay in psychology and we could chose whatever we wanted to research on and how to present it to the class (college). So I chose to do it on ';Attractiveness'; since it involves EVERYONE constantly. I still have the essay and so badly want to post it but I chose not to for fear of plagiarism. Basically its facial symetry thats considered most attractive and other small things. Do research on attractiveness and you will find your answer. Beauty DOES lie in each beholder because what is CONSIDERED attractive will change over and over like a trend and will continue to do so forever.
The girl I wish I was with now is what most people would call ';ugly.'; But despite her looks, she has a beautiful mind. That makes her more beautiful than average or pretty girls who have no brains.

Is beauty absent in the eyes of the blind?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a great day!Is beauty absent in the eyes of the blind?
Beauty might be absent in the eyes of the blind, but not in their hearts. The eye is but what we use to sense formal impressions of things made up of light and shade, to give us our sense of a world illuminated by physical light, but we all can sense beauty in many different ways. For instance, we can sense beauty in spoken words, in an assuring touch, in feelings of intimacy and belonging. Then we can sense beauty in humane behaviour and descent conduct, in acts of care, kindness and in love.

I have observed that people who have physical impairments of any one vital sensory organ find their compensation in the extended use of others organs. The people with visual impairment, for instance, I have heard, develop acute sense of hearing and their sense of touch can be times sharper than the people with normal visual capabilities.

Let me relate to you a little story here as an elaboration to what I have just said, someone once asked famous English poet John Milton, who went blind early in his career, as does he realise how beautiful, just like a rose, his wife was. ‘Yes’, sighed Milton in response, ‘I have sensed that beautiful rose by the touch of her thorns’ - this obvious here that Milton’s wife has been harsh on him that morning. Is beauty absent in the eyes of the blind?
Certainly not. For it is said that the blind actually see colors and have a sense of the objects to which they touch and are near. Therefore the beauty as it is said is in the eyes of the beholder. And that which a blind person may sense is most likely less blinded by the material looks of something and therefore has a greater appreciation of the beauty of which he beholds.
    Beauty is; ';1. the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).';

So, although beauty is absent in the EYEs of the blind, it is very much present in their mind.
A famous blind musician supposedly was an apreciator of feminine beauty, but saw with his hands.

Radar equipment linked or wired into human brains causes the person to feel the closeness of things.

We do not have to have eyes to visualize shapes, or apreciate beauty in sound or touch, but without eyes the beauty of colour is less able to be felt.
    Great question!

No, absolutely not. They probably see 'more' real beauty than those with eyes that can see! They have or develop an inner sense that can see with their imagination and touch. Some can see far better than the rest of us. They are not blinded with the facade of what is seen. They search into the person's heart and have a keen sense of reality. We can learn a lot from those that cannot see. They truly have an advantage over the rest of us!
    Is music devoid of beauty?

Is the soft fur of your loving dog devoid of beauty?

Is the fragrance of your favorite smells devoid of beauty?

Are the revelations you perceive as you discover new related relationships devoid of beauty?

Resoundingly, the blind may not see landscapes, but they certainly are not incapable of perceiving beauty!

Their perspectives are only shaped differently.
Love looks not with the eyes,

    but with the mind.

Therefore is winged cupid painted blind.

Beauty is the MINDS interpretation of SENSATION as being particularly pleasant %26amp; so is no stranger to the blind.

One would have to lose all sensation to be bereft of beauty.
blind people who were born blind have no imagination of sight.. just as colourblind people dream in black n white.

This doesn't mean that the concept of beauty does not exist to them. To them, beauty is felt or heard, not seen. So yes, it is absent in the EYES of the blind, but not in the fingers, ears, nose and tongue
Beauty and Love are spiritual, of the spirit hence the ability of blind persons to be enamoured with beauty.

Peaceful souls find their peace in the beauty in all things in their little worlds. This is itself a blessing.

May your world be filled with beauty, in people, family, and the words of loved ones...
Sense of hearing, touch, smell and taste helps them to form their own image of beauty. For us those images are weird but for them they are as real as they themselves are.

On the contrary, they are gifted to see and appreciate real beauty in us.

Its we who eyes are full of beauty absence.

    Regards

    Vinay
depends on if the meaning of blind is literally someone who can't see.. or just someone who can't find peace of mind..

If it's someone who really is blind then no.. people with disabilities see the most beautiful aspects of the world.

and if it's some one who just has.... clouded judgement

then obviously their missing the greater good that life has

    to offer...
What is beauty in the first place? If it is visual beauty, then yeah, it's absent in the eyes of the blind. If it is audio, then it's absent in the ears of the deaf. You should define what beauty is first.
I do not think so, as the blind ';see'; with all other senses. In some cases a blind person is more tuned in and ';sees'; more than the sighted. If beauty is there , it is there whether one is sighted or not.
Perhaps beauty is in the ear of the beholder!

I have a friend who is blind, and he reckons that he can tell if someone is attractive just by the sound of their voice.
No, the blind see beauty with the eye of their mind, they use their imagination and all their previous memories... I think...
Beauty sometimes is blind and the blind is beautiful.
beauty is also appreciated by all of ones other senses, perhaps u could ask a blind person what they ';see';.
? Is beauty absent of eyes, or is sight necessary for beauty.
Perhaps they are more likely to see the truest beauty of all.
    MUSIC is also a BEAUTY, %26amp; IT just need ears to ';see';
Inner beauty is there for them to see.
no. beauty is not just visual...
I have always wondered this. How would they build up images in thier head if they have no idea to base it on... hmmmm
beauty is felt rather than seen.

    thanks
My guess is that...the genuinely blind see much better than most of us; they pay attention.

She's very attractive, but she's got on way, WAY, too much makeup. You should tell her to tone it down. A LOT! Natural beauty speaks for itself, and she appears to have some natural beauty. I almost can't tell for all the gouk she has on her face.

What does ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; mean?!!?!?1?

Everyone sees differently and for different criteria. A person may find one person beautiful but another person may not see it. Every person has their own likes and dislikes. One guy might like a girl who looks good, but another guy might not find her attractive because of how she acts to others. It is all about each persons individual tastes and what they are looking for. What does ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; mean?!!?!?1?
It means an opinion (beauty %26amp; who/what is beautiful to them) of each individual (beholder). What does ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; mean?!!?!?1?
what is beautiful is their opinion and some thing might only be Beautiful to them and not you

Isnt ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; just a way for people to...?

to talk smack about someone who looks better than them? that or someone they cant score with?

i mean it seems to me that most of the people who use this saying are jealous or are haters. agree?Isnt ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; just a way for people to...?
definitely. especially those ugly people who always say looks do not matter. they are just saying that to cover their ugliness up.Isnt ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; just a way for people to...?

  • If beauty is in the eye of the beholder...?

then why do people generally find celebrities like Pitt, Beckham, Jolie and Longoria attractive?

Or is there a single soul out there who can tell the world that he finds these people UGLY?If beauty is in the eye of the beholder...?
all that means is alot of people have about the same taste in peoples looks, and yes there are people who think those people are ugly.I know someIf beauty is in the eye of the beholder...?
They are very attractive people, but true beauty is the whole package, inside and out. Only shallow people think true beauty is the dressing.
no, they are all attractive. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder
While some celebrities maybe attractive but what they are inside is what I look for. I find unattractive celebrities to be beautiful because they have wonderful personality. For example - I dont find Pitt or Jolie attractive base on their personality where as I find people like Valerie Bertinelli, Julia Robert, Sandra Bullock and Sally Field to be beautiful people because of their personality.
i don't get it....... those people ARE good looking...

just because they are good looking means that someone has to find them ugly?? i'm SO confused............
I can. We as humans, desire things and ppl that we can't have.
haha wow... i guess you can say that people hold their own standards and it wasn't set that way if it wasn't for the influences and opinions of others. just like you wouldn't know if a song was good unless other people said so.
    Commercialism + common turn-ons = mass appeal

Individual sense of beauty + passion = true adoration
My husband and I don't find half of those people attractive. They are so pasted with make up and made to appeal to the public that it is sickening. He thinks that ';fake is not fine.'; The human body is not to be liposuction and implanted with plastic, it is ment to be what it is. If we were all the same the world would be boring. You need contrast to determine if something is attractive or not and it feels that our society today wants to all look alike! It is maddening.
celebrities like Pitt, Beckham, Jolie and Longoria r gorgeous looking people. why would anybody find them ugly when they are'nt.
    pitt %26amp; jolie = hott

    longoria %26amp; beckham = not

james franco is a total hottie. :]

    %26amp; so is rachel mcadams.
I don't think angelina jolie is all that pretty i think there are many more people in this world who are much prettier. so see there is a person haha
I think Brad Pitt is totally ugly. David Beckham is just plain nasty! I can't speak for the women. Ask a guy.

Is beauty in the eye of the beholder??or beauty can be general?

Saturdates suck. We always get stuck with a ton of product left over that didn't sell. As far as I'm concerned, this is a big hoopla about nothing. Maybe they should just stick to the top 500 cosmetics stores and leave it at that. Is beauty objective or in the eyes of the beholder?

Having an argument with a friend. He says beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I say most people are attracted to the same 10-15% of the population. Is beauty objective or in the eyes of the beholder?
Both of you are right honestly. There are some people you would be stupid to disagree to say that she isn't attractive. There are some people though that find certain people attractive though and a lot of people would disagreee (which is the eye of the beholder thing). Is beauty objective or in the eyes of the beholder?
The answer is in the eye of the beholder. When you say something is beautiful, that is your opinion. Who is to say that everyone else in the world has the same opinion? Some things can be said to have a beauty that is objective, such as a sea side sunset before a storm, or a distant galaxy. But there are some minds that will find even those items not beautiful. So, in reality, they are nothing has an objective beauty.
Inner beauty is objective. But there is a distinction between BAD behavior, and GOOD behavior.

Outer beauty is subjective, in the eyes of the beholder.
It can actually be both at the same time. You and your friend could agree a celebrity is attractive, but he might also find a sweet girl attractive, who you don't think is.
I think that most people find attraction to the same type of look a person may have. In some cases beauty is universal, in some, not.
I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!!! but sometimes its a unanimous vote on someone being unattractive ! lol because if people were attracted to the same 10-15 then the ugly ppl would be lonely and wouldnt have anyone!
    Part of it is on some general physical features. But remaining percent carry more weight for the decision of beauty. Just like, you can not judge the book by cover only.;
There's a mathematical equation for beauty. Something to do with proportion ratios and all that jazz. Look it up, cause I'm just too lazy =.=
I would go with in the eye of the beholder, but people can have similar interests which could lead to the 10-15% being the same.
No, it is subjective. couple of decades ago, bigger women are consider attractive because of wealth and healthiness.
in the eye of the beholder...different ppl find different attributes attractive
you're wrong. people form their own ideas about what they think is attractive. I myself am not attracted to the typical hottie. It's too conventional.
it really just depends on the person....

The best color for brown eyes is PINK, don't wear the earth tones, or bronzes it only makes your eyes blend in, they won't stand out as much.I have brown eyes what color eye shado would bring out the beauty in them?
the right shade of pink, light and femine
use a light pink blended with a dark bronzey brown
You are lucky to have that color because you can wear many diffrent colors that will make them pretty. I would stick to earth tones. Lots of golds and brown colors. Try diffrent colors of mascara too..like brown/black isnstead of just black. Try purple shadow too. Experiment. Its can be fun cause your color is universal.
purples and golds. almey makes makeup trio kits for different coloured eyes. I say check that out

Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder?

Is that what most people think or is there a standard for beauty you can judge people by?Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder?
sara..if your avatar is any indication of what you really look like then I think you're ugly...you're prolly an ugly (insert swear).

to answer your question::: I believe that beauty is in the eyes of a beholder....I mean not everyone is gonna be thinking i'm pretty or vice versa...it depends on the person. Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder?
Although society seems to have set a standard as to what is and is not beauty, I do believe it is indeed in the eye of the beholder. When a person takes the time to get to know someone they tend to see that person regarding their personality and characteristics more than their outward beauty. I've met some very pretty women who are stuckup and think they are God's gift to men and I found myself seeing their inner ugliness change my opinion of their outward beauty.
Yes, there are hundreds of amazing-looking girls in our university you wouldn't even know which one is more beautiful, there are a few plain and even ugly girls among them. My friend is in love with one of those plain-looking girls. The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder indeed.
I would say a bit of both...I mean every culture has their own standard of beauty but in addition to that there is personal taste for lack of better word - so in that way it is in the eye of the beholder

blue rose: i like the way you think
Yes i think the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. And to Sara: Some people might be look beautiful from the outside but are very ugly from inside what do you think of that?
its true. beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.

no two people will ever look at you and think

youre pretty, or even ugly, in the same way
    salaam,

As my iman has increased, I have found myself feeling those who are wear the hijab and are pious as more beautiful

I've actually found that to be true. It makes a lot of sense. @Sara: Why are you so mean, rude and shallow??? you're ugly on the inside sara
    Yes, it is.
Yes, my mama use to say el-ird be a'en emo ghazal. Basically it means (A monkey looks like a deer in his mother's eyes)
uhh its an hours past midnight and i dont know what the question means...Its a girl thing?? i think im a preetty boi
That's what ugly people say to make themselves feel better. haha

';beauty is in the eye of beholder'; do you think this proverb is true or are there certain norms of beauty?

Yes I believe this proverb to be true. I have met gorgeous people, who become very ugly when they open their mouth. Yet, I have met what people would considered homely and found them to be wonderful, kind and beautiful once you get to know them. So,

that is why I believe in the proverb.';beauty is in the eye of beholder'; do you think this proverb is true or are there certain norms of beauty?
I think the proverb can be very true. Sometimes when I see a person that I don't necessariy think is beautiful, that persons personality changes my mind. You will always have your personality, but your looks can go away in a second.';beauty is in the eye of beholder'; do you think this proverb is true or are there certain norms of beauty?
Although there may be certain norms, ones looks are superficial. True beauty comes from within; the heart and soul of the person. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder; for if you love someone, they are beautiful to you, even if not physically pretty. Dona G.
    beauty is in the eyes of the ';beer holder';
True. We have Miss America, and Miss Black America, for instance.
I read somewhere about a studies that shows that people of all races find faces that have wide set eyes, high cheekbones and narrow jaw-lines to be most strikingly attractive, while faces with the most average proportions were second most attractive. These were computer generated images though, so they had no personality! I think often people who's faces are ';out of proportion'; are really most memorable, and it's the personality that makes them seem beautiful.
Psychological studies have shown that both men and women are most attracted to people who have VERY symmetrical faces. The study brought men and women into a room, and they were shown pictures of people. They rated the pictures on how attracted they were to the person. The overall ratings proved this.

However, outside of symmetry, I think the proverb is true.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, why does every woman I meet run away from me?

Ugliness is also in the eye of the beholder you beast

What beauty that our eyes can see, that camera lenses cannot show it to you?

he he ...your heart ...yeah inside your deep of your heart ...your acted as a bad person but deep inside of yours are polite person ..What beauty that our eyes can see, that camera lenses cannot show it to you?
hmmm, the beauty lor?? beauty...beauty...ha, eyes see the beauty ghost(be4 its transform into beast) while camera lenses cannot took the picture of ghost...mmmm, what i'm mumbling about?? don't care la, janji lu boley pikir sendiri...What beauty that our eyes can see, that camera lenses cannot show it to you?
Beauty ? what we can see with our eyes, the camera can caputre too....but in a different perspective .....we see with feelings, but the camera does not feel.....
your emotions, character which even sometimes the eyes canot see as well

yeh ! thumbs up for everyone, didnt know u all have a nice heart ! (**wink wink**)

Beauty is in the eye off the beholder! what if your blind or ugly or even worse both?

Beauty ';IS'; in the eye of the beholder! Beauty is only skin deep, and all people look the same in the dark. Need I say more? You don't measure a man by the suit he wears. If you are blind, how do you know somebody is ugly? You can't base it on what people tells you, because some people go for fat people, while some go for skinny people. The ';eye'; of the beholder is not an eye you see through, but minds eye. As I see someone ugly, someone else See's beautiful. For everyone, there is someone! You ever notice a lot of the time you will see someone, and the comment is made ';I don't see what she See's in him';, or ';I don't see what he See's in her';? If you were born and raised in the jungle by apes, and brought out into civilization only to meet one person, would you call that person ugly? Honestly, a lot of a persons beauty is measured by what other people think, rather than what a person thinks on their own.

By the way, you have raised a very good question in which I'm sure you will get some very strange answers. Have Fun!Beauty is in the eye off the beholder! what if your blind or ugly or even worse both?
You are so like my friend Clarissa, you seem to think of random questions.Beauty is in the eye off the beholder! what if your blind or ugly or even worse both?
a ';ugly person'; as you said can be beautiful on the inside, looks are not everything
This is a humorously serious question. If you're blind and ugly...it's really up to your stylist to present you to the world at your absolute best.

    Otherwise, visit a plastic surgeon.

And above all that: Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.
The minds eye, everyone has a different perspective.
Okay, for some reason, I think the meaning of that saying just totally went over your head...
Beauty is in what the person that's looking see's. It shouldn't be based upon looks, it should be about beauty for who that person is.

Looks are only skin deep, it's what qualitites that person has that makes them beautiful.
I agree with zeldieuk2002 that an ';ugly person'; as you said can be beautiful on the inside, looks are not everything. Each one of us is unique to God.
I guess that would be up to who beholding ya
    your screwed LOL

unless of course your hung like a donkey
beauty is not always found on the outside
Most ppl who are ugly usually have a beautiful personality..Looks isn't everything....Most supermodels are dumb and most ugly people are rich ...And if your blind and ugly...well, there is someone for everybody.
Ugly is skin deep - nasty goes through to the bone!

I would rather be with a person who is ugly on the outside and beautiful on the inside than the other way around!

And what's your problem with the visually challenged???
    dunno

No, because many things can cloud the eyes.Is true that ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder?';?
    yes
No, most people will say that, but it is hard to believe. Have you ever seen a hot person pick a ugly person over a hot person. Guys would you pick an ugly girl over Halle Berry. No
NO IT'S TRUE. BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEER HOLDER! LOL
Yes! The longer I look at a Japanese Girl the hotter she gets!!! Its really crazy too.
Sure. Some may find so and so beautiful or handsome whereas some people may think they are not.

You cannot please everyone in this world. Be grateful for the ones that do appreciate your beauty.

    Yes definately.

    now thats true love!

They say: beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

how many times did you contradict this? how many times did you disagree with your friends, relatives and colleagues about the beauty? They say: beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
This isn't contradiction, surely this is exactly what the phrase means?! We all value beauty in a different way and therefore what is beauty to one will not be beauty to another.

If we all agreed on things what a boring World it would be!They say: beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
I have contradicted it plenty, but it doesn't mean I don't agree with it.

Many of us are self conscious and claim not to be as good looking as someone says we are. But I think that most of the time this isn't actually true, and many people are happy with themselves, but find difficulty in accepting the compliments without argument for fear of appearing egotistical.
    Way to many to count.
    a lot of times!!
I cant even tell you how many gorgeous men I have seem with double-baggers!! Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder.

    quite a bit
There's no contradiction here. What one person sees differs from another.

If you believe beauty is intrinsic...then you've got conflict with those who believe it depends on vantage points...
Never, we all have different tastes and ideas as to what beauty is.
plenty of times - but it's how I see them that matters.
i agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.if we all had one standard for beauty the world would be so depressing cuz ppl wount enjoy anything

Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder?

Who is this beholder and where did they get the idea of what beauty is?Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder?
Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This means that each individual has a different concept of what beauty is. I like cute pink purses, to me that is beautiful. Not so for someone else.

It isn't physically in the eyes, that wouldn't be fair for blind people. It is in the mind, and in the opinion of the beholder.

The beholder is the individual who is talking about beauty. So if you are talking about what is beautiful to you, then you are the beholder.

They get ideas of what beautiful is through different methods. One is, by growing up and forming their own opinions. The other is through seeking what their friends like and starting to like it too.

I hope this helps. Is beauty really in the eyes of the beholder?
    yes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Smile and you will be beautiful

But read what Voltaire wrote on beauty

Ask a toad what beauty is, the to kalon? He will answer you that it is his toad wife with two great round eyes issuing from her little head, a wide, flat mouth, a yellow belly, a brown back. Interrogate a Guinea African, for him beauty is a black oily skin, deep-set eyes, a flat nose. Interrogate the devil; he will tell you that beauty is a pair of horns, four claws and a tail. Consult, lastly, the philosophers, they will answer you with gibberish: they have to have something conforming to the arch-type of beauty in essence, to the to kalon.
yes it is, everyone has their own taste such as the color of eyes, hair, shapes of faces etc

What you may find very attractive could be what someone else thinks is not

People are also attracted to others body odor

Perhaps the person looks like someone in their family which they love and find attractive

Then there is the personality of someone, if they have a great personality but are a bit shy, funny and so on

When all these factors come together for them in another person, it is called love at first sight, so beauty is what they find attractive

Some people love over-weight people, others, slim and tall, dark skin, light skin etx
All this means is that different people will find different things attractive. The beholder of the subject is just whoever is looking at it, whatever 'it' is. For example, my bf is pretty good looking anyway but to me he's the most beautiful person in the world. What we see is affected by our emotions and feelings towards something.
    For instance:

Some women would find a body builder beautiful, while others would find a heftier guy beautiful.

Some people think that being smart is stupid, while others think that being stupid is stupid.

It all depends on who you are.

(If ya haven't figured it out, everyone is the beholder.)

And don't ask stupid questions to try and sound profound. It's annoying.
Someone might think that a person is unattractive, and someone else might think they are the most beautiful thing in the world.

The beholder is the one with the eyes... And their idea of beauty is what ever they prefer.
    Everybody likes diffrent things

So what some may consider beutiful others consider ugly

    thus the saying ';beuty is on the eye of the beholder';

    the beholder being everybody
yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is whatever you think is beautiful.
The beholder is the person who's doing the viewing, and the idea of beauty is within.
I think the beholder is yourself. If you think you're beautiful and you have confidence then people will see your beauty.
the beholder is you and beauty is what you perceive to be beautiful
Are you the beholder of your own beauty. You must love who you are first, in order to find beauty in yourself or someone else
the beholder is god and he thinks we're all beautiful..i mean..he did make us you know.. 卢卢

but the modern people of today r mostly shallow and self centered and only think ''thin'' is in..
I asked that before. It is subjective or whatever. Every body is different.
    yes. personal preference.
the beholder is the one looking. but the wise man uses more that his eyes to see.
    Its a personal opinion.
Obviously this is just a saying, a very true saying, but yes, it's a saying.

that's just what ugly people say.

that is so funny, but it is true. Beer goggles are horrible things aren't they?
yes agree with you 10000% .too many people are trying to get hitched up with good loking women and men they do not see the beauty inside any other person.
Definately, especially when you have those goggles on!!
yep, the more beer the more beauty
Cute...and why I say, drink up!

Just a honky american here...what are beer goggles?
    I'll drink to that.
Not if she's horrendous and it's only my first one.
    Absolutely.

A freind of mine had this peculiar way of knowing how drunk he was. He would enter a bar, look at the people and fix on the ugliest person he could find. When that person started to look attractive he would go home as he knew he had had too much to drink. True story.
It all depends on how many beers you have had and if your eyes in focus.
We all have our own view in what we like it's part of who we are.

my preference is slim, Dark haired. But that dosn't mean we can't have feelings for other types. But someone who you can communicate at all levels is so important.

I love to chat so it would be boring if the person had all beauty and no brains
Yes, one persons trash is anothers treasure
no its in the eye of his beer goggles....
Are you good looking or are you dog ugly and thats why your saying looks dont matter to you
i liek got drunk and saw everyoen was ugly
In certain instances, yes. It would depend on the degree of inebriation, the subject under scrutinzation, and the dimness of the illumination.
depends but you might whiskey her of her feet
Luckily, my boyfriend has been permanently drunk since we got together 3 and a half years ago.
    Thats funny!
    Hahahahahahahahahaha!

I've never heard (or, in this case: read) that before!

    That is great!

    And yes, I agree.

-';...in the eye of the beholder'; is when beauty is seen by a particular person and no one else.

-';...in the eye of the beerholder'; is when you're waking up in the morning and when slowly turning in your bed, you could touch a very hairy-naked-1000 lbs gorilla next to you.
BEERholder cause there's nothing finer than a fabulous, icy cold beer... mmmmm I'm getting excited thinking about it. I love beer..

Is beauty really in the eyes of a beholder?

What do you think? I don't think so, not in today's society. We tend to listen to what the media tells us, and very rarely, our own mind.

I am glad I haven't been brainwashed by the modern socety. I think that Janis Joplin was beautiful...I try to find beauty in everyone, but it seems like if a girl isn't wearing a mini skirt or a pound of make-up and has big boobs, she is considered ugly.

What do you think? Have you been brainwashed by the society? Is beauty really in the eyes of a beholder?
    Hya

As the saying goes ';beauty is only skin deep';. Which is very true in my mind. You can have the fanciest clothes, the nicest body and the most beautiful smile but if you're not a nice person then your beauty is superficial.

Beauty comes from within and to answer your question I do think that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know this sounds awful but even the ugliest people have partners who find them beautiful because of who they are and not what they look like.Is beauty really in the eyes of a beholder?
Yes I think 100% beauty is in the eye on the beholder. Everyone has there own taste and some don't like what others want.

I also have not been brainwashed by the tabloids, magazine, etc. Nobody is perfect and I sure as hell no I am not but do I give a flying $hit about what people think of me NO. The ones who surrond me everyday are the ones who love and respect me. I will not change for anyone and I do what I want because I want to. Not because the NORM is being something that no man or women alive can be. If people follow societys spell then they will never be happy and you may ask am I happy? Yes I am. I follow my own rules and my own personal goals and thats what makes me the person I am today!!!
u are right i try to see the beauty inside, beauty outside is overrated, nothing there. we have to be this fake image of mega skinny and big boobs and big butt. ironicly im skinny but thats just good genes lol we need to stop listening to the media, we're not perfect and thats not bad its wat makes us unique
Yes. My friends love blondes, but I hate blonde hair!

Plus I like skinny girls, one of my friends thinks my gf needs to gain some weight.

It all comes down to what you like, and YOU are the beholder (one exception is when you look at yourself, you cannot ever judg yourself cause you are wrong, trust me nobody sees more flaws than yourself)
i have my own mind and can think for myself

i like classier looks rather than fake looks

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - will you describe something Delightful that you have seen today?

The sun is rising in the Pacific Northwest in a sky that is a sunny light blue, mottled with small white clouds. It is coming in the window through the branches of a Maple tree that is dappled with drops from last night rain. The branches hold the remnants of last years twisty seeds, faded brown and clinging. The tips of the branches are budding purple, rich with expectation.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - will you describe something Delightful that you have seen today?
This morning at 6:00 am I was looking out my living room window, taking a sip of my coffee when I noticed the moon was still on the horizon.

The dandelions in my yard(they're still yellow).
I saw a wonderful light from the sun, shine into the park, giving a marvelous glow over the flowers and trees. This was a good thing to see before going to work at 8am this morning.

Whose thought is beauty is in the eye of the beholder ??

Just want to know who was the one who came up with this thought ..Whose thought is beauty is in the eye of the beholder ??
According to The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, that is a proverb, so its origin is indeterminate.Whose thought is beauty is in the eye of the beholder ??
No one knows, it is an ancient saying and adage but whoever said it was wise enough to know that beauty is not determined by others eyes but our hearts.
This is just a subjectivist thesis, taken in the form of an adage. As such, it has been endorsed by numerous people, none of whom are the explicit originators. It has also been throughly shown to be highly problematic as a thesis by an equally large number of thinkers, and they never attributed the thoughts orgin to anyone in particular; rather, they just argued against whomever was its current proponent.

Question for everyone - topic - beauty in the eye of the beholder?

Agnostic here trying to build the yahoo answers database of Q%26amp;A, nto trying to convert anyone,

Question background. There is a person who started posting answers here two weeks ago. It is a female. Her avatar was one of those cartoon ones. She got in the first 12 days of her yahoo answers existence contact from two people.

On the 13th day she posted on her avatar a photograph of herself. On that first day she had between 15 and 25 email contacts.

    Is this because the 15-25 new persons were interested in her for her answers and how her mind works, or the photograph of a real person made them more likely to read her answers and then contact her based on how her mind works, or the obvious the15-25 new persons saw the photograph and ';went for it';

Just asking what do you think the difference was and why.Question for everyone - topic - beauty in the eye of the beholder?
I ALWAYS post a mug shot of my MUG!

I really can't understand why people are AFRAID to do the same.

The HIT AND RUN CREEPS are of course the exception. .

They get to insult without having to face anyone.Question for everyone - topic - beauty in the eye of the beholder?
Because men have two different brains and they're STILL dumber than women.
Attractive people attract. (ok, funky apemen images attract too, but the image has to lead to substance). My favorite photo of myself, is my 'narcissis and moon' photo. I don't aim to be pretty, and I don't require a lot of response. But it's a real as I can get...

I like to connect reality with my religous ideas. That's how I got them, not from a book. (I love the Bible, but I don't worship it) And I like real answers too.
the difference was the picture, as well as her words. Some people judge books by their covers, and automatically pass judgement on their knowledge base. Probably after viewing her picture and then reading her answers tyhey realized they may have been wrong and decided to email her. OR .. they just wanted to 'hook' up
I just REALLY, REALLY hope that the person in question is not Edna!
that's a tough call. of course the evidence you present would dictate that the the 15-25 persons contacted her because of the photo change. With the info you present, my mind would draw that conclusion.
Yep, you got it. I am happy with my nice cartoon avatar and will not put other pictures up. I designed my avatar to look as much like me as possible. But, I don't want anyone who knows me to recognize me and come after me, if they don't like my question or answer for some reason. Besides, I'm married, and do not want a bunch of admirers emailing me, because they like my pic.

It's just safer this way. For you too I'm sure.
    Photo enticed folks.
Dont know why Im answering, you never choose my great answers. A girl with a photo attracts more attention? When did that start happening?
I'm more drawn to answer questions from avatars that are different than the yahoo cartoon one. It just draws your eyes. Or they could all be perverts, who knows.
It is because she's workin' it.
That's very sad... I wonder how true it is that people would really 'go for it' based on a postage-stamp sized pictrure that could be _anyone_. I can say that nobody's been especially 'going for it' with me since I changed to Fat Albert...
I believe it's definitely the latter ';15-25 new persons saw the photograph and ';went for it'; ';. That's our society today.
i get told I'm cute all the time.
Answering for myself, I would say that I don't pay all that much attention to the avatars at all. I read the question to decide if that person has a valid concern or an honest question, or an honest opinion. After all, isn't that the beauty of a site like this? We aren't judged by what's showing on the outside, but by how we choose to care or not care, or answer someone's legitimate concern, or by how we communicate with others. Everyday life allows us to show our real faces. If I were to present myself to you here in this forum as sexy or good looking, it defeats the purpose, and has nothing to do with how I might feel about politics or religion, or the advice I might give you on a broken heart.
I think it's a combination of things. Some people may have been new but that probably doesn't account for much of it. Maybe 1 or 2 of the contacts tops. I would imagine a relatively even split between people seeing her picture and trying to go for it and people seeing an actual person and relating to her better. Probably slightly more going for it but such is. A picture is worth a thousand words. You can make very poignant questions and answers but if people can't see you you're just a faceless name. When there's an actual person there's a better chance of being taken seriously. That's my thoughts anyways. I'm just a cartoon though so people probably won't think too much on it.
    What an excellent question!

I think that people may look at the photo and not care what her answers are, and that is a shame.

Judging people based on their appearance whether attractive or not leaves much to be desired. You fail to see who the person really is, and you tend to make them what you want them to be. I think she will probably appreciate the people she first made contact with more because they responded to her solely on her answers. It will be interesting to see what happens to her from here!
The evidence would seem to support a likelihood of the the contacts being due to the new photo. We know from various studies that ';beauty'; is very important in our society.

Children in school receive better treatment (even if unconcious) from peers and even teachers ... teachers receive more attention from their students ... parents are more attentive to ';pretty'; children ... hiring for jobs ... overall earnings on the job.

While it isn't fair and it seems shallow, we're built to be attracted to certain physical qualities or characterists.
I know that I get a lot more people IMing me and wanting to see my non-existant webcam ever since I started using my real photo.

What is natural beauty in your eyes?

post a pic to show me what you mean by it.

For example some guys might think beauty is emma watson

Although other guys might think natural beauty is paris hilton (even though she is not natural)

Thanks, stef :)What is natural beauty in your eyes?
Natural beauty is God gifted, surrounding us.It 's your own observation to whom you feel natural. What is natural beauty in your eyes?
i think girls who look happy and with a nice smile always look beautifully natural. also girls who seem to enjoy them selves and feel confident with who they are. girls who don't wear too much makeup and just seem to have fun.

like these girls. but you can really only show natural beauty when you met in person.

    http://pro.corbis.com/images/42-17249501鈥?/a>
I agree with the first answer the girls are very pretty and don't have loads of makeup on and they are fun and carefree looking type. Natrual is when you just look your self!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder, so what's your idea of beauty

    within your eye you behold?

Also what's your idea of ugliness within your eye you behold?Beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder, so what's your idea of beauty
Beauty also lies within ones own spirit. Physical attractiveness is only one measure of a persons true beauty !

You can be a total babe on the outside and an ogre on the inside !Beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Ugliness is in the eye of the beholder, so what's your idea of beauty
My idea of beauty is a long legged girl who is golden tanned and very freckled, with red loose curls, perfect teeth, and green eyes with long lashes.

My idea of ugly is short, with really small eyes, short lashes, over tweezed eyebrows, and fakey blonde hair. With big boobs.
as a personal rule: i see all nice girls as beautiful... but when they begin an issue against f--king, they become ugly.. LOL

  • If i say ';fear is in the eye of the beholder'; instead of using the word beauty, what would it mean?

trying to think of a title for a paper, but im not sure if itll mean what i want it toIf i say ';fear is in the eye of the beholder'; instead of using the word beauty, what would it mean?
I agree with Bethany's answer and pretty much everyone else's. So if you don't want to say that Fear is arbitrary and unique to each person that experiences it, then go with a different title.

What about ';Fear is only skin deep';?If i say ';fear is in the eye of the beholder'; instead of using the word beauty, what would it mean?
i think it would mean that we all have different fears, and what's scary to someone might not be scary to another person. like i'm afraid of heights, but you might not be...so going on a tall rooftop would be scary to me, but not to you.
I interpret it as fear is ambiguous and not all things/people are scary to everyone. Fear is subjective, not objective.

    Well that's my guess.
Everyone is afraid of different things.

    .
It means that you are afraid of that person.
In many cases, we perceive things, events, people the way WE want to perceive them...not as they actually are. Sort of like a preconceived notion... What one person perceives as a fearful situation might be a walk in the park for another person. Your response to a situation or person is based on your perception of the event rather than the event or person as we are, for the most part as humans, in control of our own behaviors. If that is generally similar to your paper, I would understand your choice of title. Good luck.
Like beauty, fear is a subjective interpretation of an objective situation. In other words, fear is a self-generated response and therefore theoretically within the control of the self.
It means that you yourself are scared of different things %26amp; people, being that you are the beholder saying this. It's really not quite hard to figure out as you can also state other words or phrases being in the eye.

Are offenses, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder???

Who creates the offense, the offended or the offender???Are offenses, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder???
the offended - perceptions, truth, reality all relative to our current position, subject to a more expansive cognition in any moment, and what was ';all'; true becomes a lesser truth

one always has the choice of how to take what is offered - react or respond, conditioned response, or preferenceAre offenses, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder???
    Hello Alberto,

%26lt;smile%26gt; ';Offense'; is an emotional response to a given stimulus.

In other words, you choose to feel offended by the stimulus instead of assessing it objectively. For those who have never considered their belief systems as needing serious impartial evaluation, the actions taken because of the 'offense' are often based on personal beliefs or prejudices. I try to look at the intent behind the attempted offense.

    In cases such as those on this board whereby 'loaded' questions are designed to bait readers with passionate beliefs, I just sigh and pass them by... knowing that the intent is inflammatory. I don't find vicarious pleasure in that kind of needling nor do I get pleasure out of watching someone become angry, curse, or play superior mindgames. %26lt;shrug%26gt;

Personally, and I admit my own prejudices, I find that unenlightened behavior. Why feed the beast?

I like to give most people the benefit of the doubt. Human communication, at best, is an iffy thing. Half the problem lies in misunderstanding each other and then becoming passionate or emotional in defending themselves against what they believe was an offense. A few moments more of clarification of meaning could have avoided the whole nasty joyride... with the resultant dump of emotions that leaves your soul all sticky.

    Tara
Sometimes. But, even if someone doesn't deserve (for lack of a better word)the offense, the scripture tells the Christian to be slow to take offense. If we could practice that and overlook offenses, we would be better equipped to win souls for the Lord. If we truly ';die to self'; how can we rightfully take offense at anything? Dead people don't get offended. People are so touchy in this world today, you never know what is gonna set someone off. But, the Christian has a double duty to not take offense and also to not offend. It's not easy sometimes, but it should be a conscious desire in every Christian's heart.
Are you really asking if there is true Truth? If there is a moral law, there must be a moral law-giver. Those who say truth is truth for me, but not for you... ';the offender or the offended';. I believe there are moral laws that everyone follows because there is a moral law-giver...God.

So, the offense is not just in the eye of the beholder. If I kill someone, it is first, an offense against God Himself, the moral law-giver, then it is an offense against the offended. The offender is the one who broke the moral law.
are offenses, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder??? In most case yes, especially on the net where one cannot hear speech nuances. Some offenses are very intentional however.

Beauty isn't in the eye of the beholder. right?

Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. It sounds like you are buying into the Madison Avenue line about how paper thin girls need to be. Forget that. I remember a girl from junior high that everyone thought was very pretty. So did I until I found out she cheated on her tests. She never looked so pretty to me after that.

Look at the female form throughout history, and in different countries. What is ';beautiful'; has changed over the years. The paintings by Reuben of the beautiful women of his day show some very plump specimens.

What is most important is how you feel about yourself, and how you see yourself. If you are honest and try to be good, people will automatically like you better, and you will be seen as being more beautiful than someone who is self-centered and conceited, no matter what her measurements or outward attributes.

Don't be so concerned about your outward appearance, unless it is becoming a health issue. In fact, a bit of meat on your bones is better for you than to be bone-thin. It is also much more attractive.Beauty isn't in the eye of the beholder. right?
What the heck is your question?
WTH ? I can't understand anything you said.

Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or in its' object.?

Its in the eye of the beholder. and suppose to some extent in the ';object'; but i reckon in the eye of the beholder more.Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or in its' object.?
Because beauty is psychological we could not produce a common measuring tool for beauty. So, every one measures beauty the way he likes using his own tools. That's why saying ''beauty is in the eyes of the beholder'' is right. Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or in its' object.?
I believe so because if everyone thought beauty was the same thing then there would be a lot less pregnant women...
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. example I may say I am beautiful but then you may not see me that way.
beholder b/c of perception, beauty is opinion.

Are there things that are universally ugly or universally beautiful?

Repulsion is as one Finds it to be.Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?
The statement is a metaphorical statement and you are trying to take it literally, which is the source of your puzzlement.

A blind person obviously cannot see, but they can describe things and people as being beautiful.

An old ugly person can be beautiful because of some kind act they do or the grace in which they might accept kindness from others.

Every year in Petaluma, CA, there is an ugly dog contest. The winner has to be the most beautifully ugly dog submitted. This years winner was a chihuahua, blind in one eye and with three legs which looked like it had been on the spin cycle too too many revolutions.
Yes there is something called universal beauty, even though you might appreciate the beauty of someone, you might not be attracted to her/him. You just admire, so I would say, attractiveness is the one that is in the eye of the beholder. But the greatest thing God has created in the human consciousness is that everyone attracts someone.

    Cheers
    i think it's a bit of both.

human beings as all animals find certain traits that can be observed visually as being beautiful because these traits are meant to be good for procreation of humanity.

this is how evolution is meant to work. for example breasts are good for feeding babies, wide hips for giving birth without dying, and all other ';beautiful'; traits have purpose this way.

i could never pickout the beautiful cow, but the bulls can because they have evolved to be tuned to their own specie.

but us humans don't only have the emotional attraction we also have mental, so we have an extra dimension on how to judge beauty. some might find a woman with fake breasts and a facelift beautiful while another might not. some might have prejudice over a ';beautiful'; person because they would find them to likely be shallow or stupid or had everything handed to them or some other stereotype, and same goes for the opposite.

also a blind man would judge beauty far differently than a man who can see perfectly, this way beauty would most definitely be in the eye of the beholder.

plus since humans don't evolve in the same natural way animals do because of our access to technology we can develop different tastes for what our body considers beautiful for survival of the species.

for example you never find overweight wild animals, because they would be easily hunted and killed. but humans are impervious to this, so we can even develop humans that find overweight extremely beautiful.

so i think there is probably enough of a variety of people to find every possible physical trait attractive, though some are much more common than others. and on top of that logic and knowledge affects how we perceive beauty as well, including media. there has been many styles over the ages people have been pretty much the same. it used to be and still is in many asian countries that fair was beautiful, whiter skin, because this meant you were rich and stayed out of the sun, rather than work outside as a farmer. that's why women would carry those sun umbrellas like they still do in asian countries. whereas in the western world women will go to the tanning salon and try to look darker, like if they live in a hot country and suntan on the beach. which incidentally makes you look older faster.

i just read your all things thing.

i think it is similar for other things like a sunny day is a beautiful day because it is good for our survival, a rainy day is not because you can die in a thunder storm.

there is also an inherent cuteness to many babies of animals. people find spiders and snakes ugly because they might kill you. stuff like that, i think most beautiful ugly has to do with this. don't forget that what has beautiful colors, are the colors beautiful because the animal is colored beautifully or is it because you have evolved to associate beautiful color to the kind of light reflecting off of that being.

color is not a property of light or the world around you. it is a translation, and interpretation, an invention of your mind. light goes in your eye, and you brain creates color and associates color to wavelengths of light. just like you can have a heat sensitive camera that assigns color to temperature but that does not mean that heat has color.

knowledge affects here too. for one an equation is beautiful, for another it is just symbols on a page.
Beauty is a mixture of relative and absolute.

If most people agree that Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt are attractive, then this means that their IS an absolute element to beauty. But also there's a genetic element to it. We will find certain people attractive as they will be a good match for us genetically.
There is a potential for beauty everywhere. For example, when I see a roach in my kitchen, I see ';ugly,'; but somewhere in nature, this critter is beautiful.

What more needs to be said?

And for humans, every single one is beautiful in some way.
I'd say beauty is in the amygdala of the perciever.
Yes, but it can be influenced by others, media, friends, culture.
Whenever I beholden her she is beauty to me
Yea, I look at life as a woman's love, so...it could be either!
    no.

  • When looking in your eye in the mirror, do you see the outer shell or the inner beauty?

This is my belief. One, to me, is self seeking, the other is self awareness.

Peace and LoveWhen looking in your eye in the mirror, do you see the outer shell or the inner beauty?
    I see my eye.

    ~Neeva

http://wayofthemaster.com/goodperson.sht鈥?/a>When looking in your eye in the mirror, do you see the outer shell or the inner beauty?
I probably see my outer shell.
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in Him is everlasting strength.
What I see there varies according to how I feel at the time, if I am in a good mood, or troubled, or sick, or whatever.....Sometimes I see my inner self, other times I just see things like crow's feet!
The outer shell is most easy to see.... One can peer at the self and see if they see the inner, but that is not possible.....The flesh is in the way of truest sight because it seeks to see something it cannot see to prove to itself that it can see it....

The only way to see the true self... Or the true existence of another is in dreams..... It is the only place that cannot be told a lie... it is the spirit's turn to use the eyes.... and it sees without flesh eyes at a world that has already been given truth by experience....

Experience cannot be hidden within..... Even those things we had thought we had forgotten, or wished we did not know can be seen...... The flesh can only see the ';face value'; of the world... the spirit sees without the flesh.....

The inner beauty of man can only be seen in the spirit......

    your sister,

    Ginger
    When I first saw your question, my immediate response was that I totally agree with you. The outer shell IS self seeking, the inner beauty IS self awareness. Then I wondered if I was seeing something ';else'; rather between the lines, reading more into it than was there. So I looked at some of the answers to perhaps find a link to my interpretation. I liked the answer of rasendra, the mirror reflects the outer shell, yet for the inner beauty, no mirror is required. Yet. You wrote, (I wish I could put this in italics!) ';..looking in your EYE in the mirror.';

%26amp; isn't it indeed possible to ';see'; inner beauty in the eyes--

yourself %26amp; other people's as well? %26amp; NOW, I see it as a beautiful meptaphor. Is our ';mirror'; reflection simply how our ';outer society'; sees us, or our perception of that outer society? Stop me!
    The beauty! The Beauty!

The BEAUTY? Look, an eye may appear beautiful because it's an optical device, and needs to be perfectly symmetrical and curved. It's a clever invention by evolution, despite its flaws.

But do you really think beauty is an absolute? Or that contemplating your own retina provides self-awareness? If so, your brain need glasses.

Well its how you are in the inside that counts.
Looking in the mirror , outer shell can be seen. For seeing the inner beauty or self awareness no mirror is required!

Beauty in the eye of the beholder?

As with anything like this there is no point discussing the matter without a clear definition - so: how do you define beauty? How do we recognize beauty?

And on to the main question: do you believe that beauty is a characteristic of an object, person or idea? Or is beauty determined by the one viewing it? If so, then what are the implications of this? Does beauty only exist in the mind?

Beauty in the eye of the beholder?
usually when I see beauty it is something within that sparks my notice.

A person can be attractive and well made up but their demeanor will

broadcast their beauty - or not.

I have seen numerous attractively packaged individuals who were

very self centered and not at all beautiful.Beauty in the eye of the beholder?

and theres also a beauty thats transcending, thats perception, like it reminds us of something or someone.
unless it is upside down . . .

Yes in the mind and the pheromones.

It all comes down to what you like, and YOU are the beholder (one exception is when you look at yourself, you cannot ever judg yourself cause you are wrong, trust me nobody sees more flaws than yourself)
i have my own mind and can think for myself

i like classier looks rather than fake looks

give me a healthy weight ,natural looking girl over a fake skinny girl anyday :)
    nope, i am like you.

i think people are pretty in their own way.

not if they shop and hollister and drive expensive cars.

    your very smart.

    good job!

Is beauty in the eyes of the beholder?

I'm doing a debate for school, and would like some opinions. So please leave yours and a reason why or why not ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';. Thanks!

Is beauty in the eyes of the beholder?
    Yes

i think it is because everyone is different anf has there own opinion

%26amp;%26amp; we all have our own ideas to what is beautiful and what isnt....plus people who see themselves as beautiful are just more confident with themselves than other people

Is beauty in the eyes of the beholder?
    Yes!

    Are you into greek myths?

Well, Haydes, god of the underworld, lived in a cave.

It was dark, damp, and cold.

In his eyes it was beautiful.

To others it was just horrible!

    The End!!!

    hope you liked my story.

    : ]
yes, bec the concept of beauty varies from culture to culture %26amp; country to country. Also personally i feel more than ';just looks '; it is the total personality that counts. Good luck for ur debate!
    Yes

    Example:

Some people think Jessica Alba is the most beautiful person today, others thinks she's hideous.
yep beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that's ME
